I'm burnt out, not sleeping, constantly stressed — what actually helps?

Jun 01, 2026 · by Lewis Hackney

The honest answer first: supplements won't fix burnout. If the cause is still there, every supplement in the world is a sticking plaster.

What they can do is reduce the physiological load while you work on the actual problem. Cortisol, sleep quality, nervous system regulation. Those are addressable. And addressing them makes everything else, including dealing with the real cause, slightly less impossible.

The three that actually do something

Ashwagandha. The most direct intervention for chronic stress. KSM-66 is the extract with the clinical evidence behind it. Three trials showed cortisol reductions of 15 to 30 percent after eight weeks of daily use. That's not trivial. Lower cortisol means better sleep, lower anxiety baseline, and less of the wired-but-tired feeling that defines burnout.

Magnesium. Most men who are burnt out are also magnesium deficient. The two go together because stress depletes magnesium and low magnesium amplifies the stress response. Breaking that cycle is the aim. Better sleep is usually the first thing men notice.

Vitamin B Complex. Chronic stress depletes B vitamins. They're involved in energy metabolism and neurotransmitter production. When they're low, the fatigue becomes even harder to shift. A B Complex supports what your nervous system needs to start functioning properly again.

What to understand about the timeline

None of this works overnight. Ashwagandha takes four to six weeks to accumulate. Magnesium's sleep effects can come faster, often within two weeks. Give it eight weeks before drawing conclusions.

And do the obvious things. Sleep as much as you can. Reduce the load where possible. Eat properly. Supplements are a support structure, not a solution.

The Recovery and Sleep Stack is where I'd start. It covers all three.
